I believe the store was within their rights in not selling you the rug at £10 especially if genuine mistake was made. I know you cannot insist they sell you the product at the price advertised as it is something to do with an 'invitation to buy' but they don't have to sell you it. Perhaps someone else here could confirm this for you.
Not sure whether a letter would gain you anything only to vent your feelings - but you never knowAuddel0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
this is completely the wrong board for this but yup you're totally right auddel. the store are not obliged to sell the item at the mark down price at all. writing a letter wont do any good im afraid, they'd simply reply stating the law in this case. which they followed. sorryWhat matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

i used to work in retail and i was then told that once the price was marked down we should sell it at this price. I have seen mistake like theses happenned often many times and each time the person paid the discounted price.
if nnot imagin you lure customer with discounted price and then at the till "oh sorry it is the wrong price" thaty will cause mayhem ! lolBSC number 1830 -
sorry don't take my words per se this is from my own experience ( 10 years in retail )BSC number 1830

i worked in retail for years aswell and although thats correct if you sell the product i believe its a bit of a grey area whereby the retailer has no obligation to sell you anything! see what im saying? of course in many cases the discount is honoured to avoid situations just like this! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

I think you've had a lucky escape - I have a Matalan rug that I paid about £40 for - total rubbish, looks like a filthy old rag after a few months. (washed per instructions) Wouldn't have given them a tenner had I known.
All on here are correct - they are not obliged to sell you it but a decent store would have honoured the price whilst whipping the rest off quick!;)0 -

theres no grey area .
a retailer can withdraw an item from sale, otherwise any old thief could just swop the price and demand to pay it-not saying the Op did this, obviously!! but they maybe don't know this-sounds like crappy store service, you have the right to be outraged(unfortunately you can't prove it).I doubt a letter will work, but you could try!!0
