Hi
Im new to this site
I hope this question is in the right place.. if not.. please dont shoot me.
I want to buy a LCD TV (40"-42")
Im in a dilemma and I have no idea which tv is better:
Sony KDL40L400U - £579
OR
LG 42LF75 - £599
Both are in Richer Sounds
If anyone can help me by telling me which is actually a better buy and whether Richer Sounds are cheapest.
Any help is appreciated.
Many thanks

Normally I'd choose a Sony over an LG, but it's pretty hard to be specific without seeing both TVs. If Richer Sounds have them both in stock, take a DVD you know well with you and ask if you can compare them.0

Doesn't seem to be much between them from the features lists on the Richer Sounds website. The Sony has a better contrast ratio, but has 2 HDMI sockets against the LG's 3.
Pricewise, from the quick search I did, the prices seem quite competetive.Dave. :wave:0 -
Manufacturers' stated contrast ratios are pretty much meaningless anyway.0

Don't get a big LCD they a horrid get a plasma, this one will do ya http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PANA-TH42PX80BNothing to see here, move along.0

+1 for the Panasonic Plasma.
Lovely TV's we have the 37" one and several people at work have Panasonic Plasmas and all are very happy with them. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Id by the panasonic too. But if you MUST choose between the Sony or the LG, you MUST buy the Sony.
NEVER go off the specs, theyre absolutely meaningless as to the ACTUAL quality of a tv:idea:0 -
According to Which, LCDs win hands down

Please define what you mean by "best". Are you worried about reliability, picture quality (HD) or upscaling (SD), overall appearance, functionality (ease of use) or functionality (menu options), compatibility with a SkyHD remote control.....or what?

I was in this dilemma a while back and after reading through exhaustive reviews, actually looking at the TV's in the flesh and comparing price I ended up with a Panasonic 37" TH-37PX80B Plasma and I don't regret it for one second. Fantastic on SD (normal) and HD viewing.
37" - £549 at Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0013UMYPK/300001085-21/?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
42" - £627 at Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0013UJS5Y/300001045-21/?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE0 -
I just bought the 37 inch plasma TH-37PX80B this weekend and I love it and don't regret it for a moment, despite all my techie colleagues telling me to go for an LCD.
They also had the 42 inch (they sell them at House of Fraser with 5 yr guarantee - more expensive than richer sounds though). The 42 looked lovely, but we don't have a room big enough.
I would really urge you to go to the shops and look at the TVs and see for yourself. I personally did not rate any of the Sony LCDs. As a general rule of thumb I found I liked the Panasonic and Samsung LCDs. Make sure you see them playing normal TV as well as HD. For us HD is not not important as we have no means of watching any HD tv at the moment. I watch freeview 90% of the time, and play games and watch DVDs the other 10%.
So try to find out what your needs are.
