need help with capquest

can anyone help.

out of the blue oh got a phone call from capquest about a debt totalling 250.02.
they said the debt was originally taken out on july 13th 2001 and was paid every month up until 2005.(not sure who it was originally but capquest said it was with barclays finance)

the debt was sold to capquest in 2006 but they couldnt find oh until july 2008.

they finally phoned him today, we hasve had no letters or anything at all from barclays or capquest.

oh phoned barclays finace and gave them the info that capquest gave him ie dates and amount but they said nothing has come up on their computer.

capquest have told him to write to an address in fleet with a cheque or postal order for a pound and he will get a copy of his statements.

we moved in march 06 to our house now but did set up a postage redirect so we would get anything sent there.

oh cant remember taking out any debt with barclays and we have had recent letters from mckenzie hall for a similar amount 204 for a debt with singlepoint who again have no details of any account with him.

has anyone had any dealings with capquest or does it sound dodgy to anyone. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

  • I too have had this lot on the phone tonight regarding a £400 debt to Capital 1 Bank. The very abrupt scottish girl told me i HAD to clear the debt within 48 hours, laughed when I told her it would have to be paid in installments .I told her we had been assured by debt advice company that they have to accept what we can afford & offered to send a list of our income & expenditure, she then threatened me with their legal department so I said ``please do as they may follow the law``..She again laughed & put the phone down!! Anyone else had dealings with this lot & we reckon they are a subsidury of Capital 1?? ..Or is the name just similar, she also said that `Debitas` were Capital 1 legal lot??!

Capquest aren't just Capital 1, I've had them for one of my debts (I think it was the Egg one). They're well known on here, but not in a good way.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • cheers for the answer! The lass I spoke to was really intimidating! hope she enjuys her job --sarcastic cow!

I suggest that everyone having issues here with suspect debts sends a CCA request with a £1 postal order, regsitered post to Crapquest.

However, make absolutely sure that you head the letter with "I do not acknowledge any debt to your company".

They then have 12 working ddays, plus 2 days to allow for the postal serice to rpodiuce the signed CCa (assuming that the debt was taken out prior to April 2007) or tell you that the type of debt is not covered by the CC Act.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

what happens if the debt was taken out after april '07?
I was advised a postal order because a cheque had to be signed and gave them your signature.

    Hiya

Make the cheque out to Capquest (I recently had dealings with this lot) and put reference number on the back.

Incidentally Crapquest couldn't provide the CCA when I requested it - they had bought the debt from the original creditor. Not heard a peep from them and I did get a letter in writing advising that they would not be 'chasing the debt'
