I think sendmoneyhome was the first comparison site for this type of business, but there are others out there now. You might want to try some of these:

    Compare Money Transfer
    My Money Shortlist
    Which Way To Pay

(sorry cant post links but if you google them they should come up ;-)

    you missed out MyCurrencyTransfer.com

As a tip - you do need to be aware of the very useful 'exchange rate guides' on comparison websites (whether it be SMH, MyCurrencyTransfer.com..). It is a fantastic tool but these will never be the final dealing rate. Instead more of a very useful 'indicative' guide rate as to the likely margin a broker will take on a specific currency transfer.

Seeing as you are at the stage of shopping around, you should be aware that you are only entitled to a final dealing quote once an account has been open (thus be careful of the broker who you call up and he will quote you the interbank rate!).

    Hope this helps.

  • Came across a strange one yesterday with worldpay

Went to HSBC to send some money to my own bank account in France. French bank charge 18Euro to receive euro transfers and HSBC charge £9 for a world pay transfer.

French bank is doing a 'special offer', no charge to receive sterling credits and a reasonable exchange rate to euro. Sounds good.

Worldpay at HSBC will not allow a sterling transfer to a foreign bank, it has to be in the official currency of the receiving country.

The only way to send sterling (at HSBC at least) is by a 'priority payment' that can be in any currency but the charge for that is £30!

Not impressed, left with the choice of £30 to send sterling or £9 to send euros plus 18euros to receive it. Needed to get the money there so went for the latter.

Sendmoney.org doesnt seem sophisiticated enough to pick up on this.

I used Global Web pay 4 times now, very happy with it. Managed to get it fee free in December. My bank in Czech rep did not charge me because they receive the money in Czech crowns, which was great.
Waiting now if Globalweb pay will do another fee free month (fee it £4.75) to transfer some more money, their exchange rate is better than any bank..Nationwide bank would also charge me £20 for transfer..

Haven't been able to connect to it for a while.

A bit of googling later I discovered a reference to the company having changed its name (and URL) to:

    fxcompared(dot)com

(As a new user MSE won't let me post links so you'll have to cut & paste -DON'T FORGET to change "(dot)" to "." !!! - sorry)

Although why they haven't set a redirection or left a notice on their old home page I can't imagine.

Anyway fxcompared does have a very similar look and feel to sendmoneyhome so I guess it is as above - but it could be a fake so until MSE confirms I suggest treat with caution!!!!

    Chris.
  • Thanks for the info!
  • I am considering using MoneyCorp to transfer money from Spain to UK account. Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks
  • Recently sent £2K abroad, the banks make it really easy to do this through internet banking but they rate they give you is scandalous...a real rip off. I used the sending money abroad site [think its been renamed] to show me the best rates...ended up using theFXfirm , they were offering the best rate at the time for the country I was sending to...really efficient and saved me about £80 over Lloyds TSB bank.

DON"T USE BANKS FOR SENDING MONEY ABROAD!!! Unless you have money to throw away.:rotfl:
