PC Freezes on Web Page

Hi,

I have a problem where my web page crashes if I highlight an area to delete or select all to delete. This happens if I use my e-mail - (cut and paste) or select all to delete my spam folder. It does it in other applications other than e-mail if I try highlight and area to copy. It has only just started happening and no new software/hardware has been added just before problem started.

I have a 4mth old Dell Inspirion running Vista.

Its all up to date running AVG and system firewall. I have run Ad-aware and nothing dodgy found.

Many thanks for any help or advice

  • Just to confirm...you are saying that when writing an email your PC crashes? or the browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox) crashes?

if I am in my yahoo mail account and I want to cut and paste text from an e-mail it doesn't like it for some reason. Doesn't do it all the time. If it freezes I just open up a new web page and relog back in. It then lets me do what I want - its very odd. It has happened on an online order with tesco as well.
  • Have you tried Firefox? Could be AVG and linkscanning at a guess. Maybe try a different antivirus like Avira AntiVir.

Does the event viewer tell you anything further? Look for the time and date it crashes - guide here: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_event_viewer.htm
  • I would agree with davidmt83 about using a different browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer then try Firefox or if you are using Firefox try Internet Explorer.

If it doesn't crash in the new browser then that's a good indication its something directly related the browser involved. You might have a toolbar or something installed that is causing a problem. Let us know the results so we can advise further.

Those were the days - re-installing IE ;)
