Primus 0845 and 0870 query

Looking back at my bills from Primus (Freetalk plus 2) I have a charge of £2.54 every bill. I queried this today with them and was advised that this relates to 0845 and 0870 numbers that have been dialled. We did have communication problems but from what I was able to understand the charge is 2p per minute peak and .5p off peak for 0845 and 6p peak and 1.5p off peak for 0870. For example one bill there was one 0845 peak call of .06 mins charged at 21p and one 0870 peak call of less than 1 min charged at .06p. However, regardless of how many premium rate nos are phoned there is always this £2.54 charge. Can anyone explain what this charge relates to?
I am considering going back to BT for calls but understand I have to give Primus 30 days notice and would like to get this matter sorted first.
Thanks for any advice

Sounds like a monthly call package charge to me (£2.54 + VAT at 17½% = £2.99).
I've not heard of Primus Freetalk Plus 2 but why not just change to Primus Saver or Primus Penny Mobile 2? There's no monthly charge for those calls packages.
BTW, except for weekday evenings/nights (when BT is cheapest for 0870 calls), using 18185's freephone gateway number is normally the cheapest way to make 0845 and 0870 calls - see HERE.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks - the penny has just dropped, obviously I've been paying a monthly charge. The guy in the call centre got it wrong and the charge was nothing to do with the premium rate calls. I'll contact them and change to a package that is fee free.0
