JSA Online claim - did not work

13»

Comments

  • I phoned the new claims line and got an appointment at the job centre next week

They said the online claim could not be located and it would have dropped off the system after 30 days

A Decision Maker is going to consider whether I can have the claim backdated

Moral of the story: don't claim online, phone up

Glad you got through, you will need to take details of all the things you have done to look for work for the period you want to back date for. there will be 2 decision makers involved a 'labour market' decision maker will decide if you have satisified the conditions to be deemed as available and actively seeking then a benefit decision maker will then decide if they will pay you any benefit or just award your NI credits.

I thought my first appointment would be just a 5-minute appointment where they check that I'm happy with what I agreed over the phone

When you say take details? what kind of things? old newspapers, webpage printouts? application screenshots? (not that I really have these)

You'll need to take bank statements and passport for ID

First appt, you will see 2 people. 1st one goes through everything you have put on your form, and the 2nd one goes into more details about what work you are looking for/hours etc, and will allocate you your signing on day/time

From my experience, you should allow at least 90 minutes for the first appt

Proof of job seekeing is basically you just keeping a diary of what you have done to seek work. To qualify for JSA you have to undertake 3 job seeking activities per week. 1 could be looking through your paper, or ringing for application form, or applying for a job, or browsing online. List them out by activity, showing dates of when you did each. This is what you need to do on an ongoing basis so it's well worth you being able to show this now if you wish them to backdate your claim

As the last post stated you will be interviewed by our offices this takes around an hour. you won't be interviewed by the decision maker they will just use the information sent to them by the jobcentre.

....I had worked solid for 22 years and never claimed since I was 17, .......

I do not like going there to sign on as I feel awful claiming off the state.

Don't feel bad. 22 years of NI contributions means you're entitled to help while you look for a job.

Mind you, they don't want anyone to feel too comfortable signing on, otherwise we'd all do it all the time :p
