Ha
all sounds so familiar.
Lived in PJ'S for a week, only put a bra on to see the nurse, when i did put clothes on they were comfy and loose:p
Things seem to move along in steps, sat on my bottom and laid on my back for the first 5 days in my PJ'S {drove me nuts} after that i could roll onto my side in bed with a pillow wedged around my tum, gradually was able to lie on my side without the pillow. Could lie on my tum by about day 8/9 but i couldn't get out of that position  so had to give it more time..
Think it's 6 weeks since my op now, and i do everything that i did before my operation, although having done not alot for a month my stamina levels are a bit poor:o
Well i blame it on that anyway, Ha Ha,:p

Hi all
Was reading an earlier thread and thought I'd update on my op
well its been 3 weeks today since my op and i go back to work tomorrow:mad::rotfl:
mixed feelings bout that, i want to go back but after 8 weeks i feel i should be buying a new pencil case and schoolbag:rotfl:
Gradually found myself doing more and more, things like emptying the dishwasher after bout 10 days were ok, though the first few days when dropping the remote was difficult to pick up and trying to get comfy in bed seemed to take weeks, ive only really managed to lie on my right side over the past few days
I was driving after bout 10 days, the nurses told me i could drive as soon as i felt comfy enough to put the seat belt on. i tried driving after 7 days but didnt feel it was safe enough to do so.
Its amazing how each day you improve and I felt so much difference between the 7 days and the 10 days.
Eating wise, hmmmm I've not really got much of an appetite just now but thats down to other things going on but I can now eat cheese:D:D
So glad I had it done fairly quickly though after the first attack (May) I couldnt have coped with that for years as some of you have had to do and its given me an insight into how brave people are who have to put up with chronic pain
BTW before my op and in the beginning when the pains were not so constant and before the gall bladder was so inflamed I found beet root juice helped, apparently the beetroot juice(not the pickled stuff) dilutes the bile and eases an attack and it certainly worked for me in the early stages
Good luck and best wishes to anyone going for GB surgerycheerio hen0 -

Hi there,
Great posts!
I have been told I have gallstones and i have been waiting for the letter from the hospital for my pre-op advise etc for having my gallbladder out. I have been trowling the internet obsessively for a couple of weeks now and can't belive I have found the most useful information on the money saving website! lol. Anyway just wanted to say thanks for all the previous posts! I can't wait to have my op as am miserable after about 6 attacks over the past year - one of which had me going to emergency dr's on a sunday and calling during the night who both said I had gastroenteristis(?) I went to my own gp the next day who sent me for a scan which found 2 gallstones, one of which is 2cm. After being diagnosed it seems that I can't eat anything and have had permenant pain for past couple of weeks although it is managable it is uncomfortable but not as bad as the attack which sent me to the dr's. I have just received my pre-op date which is whilst I am away on holiday to spain which I am dreading as I have found I can only eat plain chicken!! Has anyone got any food advice for whilst on holiday and not in full control of what is being cooked? I have been eating a zero fat diet for past week which has eased the pain also on antibiotics as gallbladder is infected :-( can't believe it tho as haven't lost any weight?? anyway straying off the point now (sorry bit frustrated at the mo!) back to my Q - any holiday/spanish food advise would be muchly appreciated.
Thank you0 -
Hi Bectorious,
poor you, it's no fun, and it's very scary when a full blown attack hits. I think you have to experience it to appreciate how agonising the pain is.
Haven't got any advise for your holiday diet, sorry. It seems that every individual is different when it comes to food. All of us avoid fat, and fried foods, i lived on dry crackers with ham or tuna, and lots of chicken, pasta was o.k. too. I couldn't eat dairy or bread. You quickly learn what to avoid.
Good Luck with your op, it's 3 months since mine and i am doing fine, i'd say 90% better, still avoid a few dodgy foods {chips}

Hi, I found this thread whilst googling for recipes to enhance my booooring diet! (all recomendations welcome!!) And spent the last half an hour reading 6 or 7 pages of experiences. Thank you all for documenting them!
I too have had years of various symptoms, and told different diagnosis from IBS to indigestion to wheat intolerance.
An extremely bad attack 4 or 5 weeks ago had me admitted to hospital in a painful ball of panting, crying, yelling mess......I was put on a morphine drip and went through x-rays and scans. The sonographer said he wondered how the stones had not been detected before as I had a fair amount in there. There and then he said the docs/consultant/surgeon would opt for surgery. He was right.
I am off sick from work at the moment, as a flare-up leaves me shaken, sore, tender and walking like I am 90 years old for days afterwards.
I have my pre-op appointment on the 13th of October and then I just have to wait for a date for the actual operation. I have had a few flare ups since coming out of hospital, but thankfully my pain meds have been enough to cope. Having the diagnosis has been a godsend....all this 'not knowing' has made me feel like a hypo-chondriac all these years, and I was getting the the point where I felt the doctors were gettin annoyed with me. Although gallstones/surgery is not the diagnosis I wanted, at least it is a final one, and hopefully the surgery will put an end to it all!
Sorry for waffling.
And again, Thanks loads for the explantions of the different experiences.0 -
Hi everyone,
I managed to swap (what I thought was) my pre-op to last tuesday but it was a pre-pre op and am now booked in for the proper one on the 28th of october - does anyone know how long it usually takes for surgery after the pre-op? I was hoping to have the little blighter out by my birthday (early nov) but am now holding out for christmas. i have been trying a few forbidden foods in very small quantities and although i do get some discomfort i have managed to control it with my pain killers. my holiday is drawing closer so i am at least looking forward to that!! how is everyone else getting on? x0 -
hi bectorious and enigmanda
i had to wait for 7 months from my first 5 days hospital admission to my op - i was admitted due to my liver function tests being off the scale and managed to get a scan the next day.
when you are both next seen in your outpatients appointments ask how long you can reasonably expect to wait for surgery and mark the amount of months they say in your diary as x months from appointment, then count back three weeks and mark chase up surgery date - if by this date you have heard nothing, ring your consaultants secretary (if you have an assigned consaultent) or your the inpatients addmission office at your hospital (admissions office good if secretary is on hols or sick) and chase up the appointment - generally you will hear somthing from them pretty soon.
dont worry about chasing up the appointment, it is easy to get lost in the hospital system or bumped down the lists again and again pro-activity reminds them you have not forgotten.
all the best let us know how you get on.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
I know there are different stones. I had kidney stones, and the Doctor advised me to take a lot of water with half lemon's juice, and some vit C in the morning, and ginger tea also She recommended oranges. Work for me now I don't have any pain at all, I think the stone dissapear0
