As of a day ago you could only book discounted tickets up to the 13th February, so at a guess you are seeing full price tickets only
Wait a week or two and you should be able to book up to the 19th
BUT in the meantime do some trial bookings for - say 3rd to 12th Feb - to see what sort of prices you are likely to get. NOTE the cheapest tickets may not be available immediately, so you may have to wait until the middle of December in order to book them0 -

Hi thanks for the reply i have done some trial bookings for various dates in dec and jan but the price is always the same £146 so i'm wondering if this is the best price i'm going to get

The £146 is a walkon fare
It looks like it may be a journey with no cheap advance fares. If that is so then try split tickets - say at York or Leeds0 -
The other thing that may be worth trying is a 'groupsave 3' rather than your family railcard - I did find some cheapish airport special fares this way for a couple of week's time.0

If you do split at Leeds to get the cheap advance tickets go via Mancester Piccadilly as cheap advance via the airport are not much cheaper than an Anytime ticket
ie;
Durham to Leeds
Leeds to Manchester Picadilly
Manchester Picadilly to Manchester Airport ***
*** Don't know if you need this part of the ticket as I'm doing a split advance journey from Edinburgh to N.Wales via Manchester Picadilly in the New Year and the Edinburgh to Manchester tickets say 'Manchester Stns' would this include the airport aswell? (booked online Edindurgh Waverly to Manchester Picadilly selected stations) dzug1 what do u think?Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Could it be worth getting the train to Newcastle, then getting the airport getaway fare?Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0

I doubt if Manchester stations would include the airport - just Victoria, Oxford Road and Piccadilly0 -
