Made an online application for a Barclays Current Account yesterday. During the application it asked me to verify info on my Equifax file. I got an email thanking me for my application saying they'd be in touch.
I phoned up today to enquire on the application and first I was hung up on twice. Then I got through to someone who said, "i'm not sure what is going on. You must go to the branch with 2 forms of ID I guess." I asked him why and whether my application has been processed yet. He told me to go into the branch, talk to any Personal Banker and "perhaps put through another application just to make sure."
I asked if my application has been processed and if I've been credit scored yet. he said, "I can't say for sure."
I can see they've done the ID check at Equifax but they do not appear to have checked Experian yet.
Is it possible to terminate the application at this stage so that they won't perform any credit check and I'll be left free to take my business elsewhere?

Just tried the New Accounts phone number again. It's been a solid hour now that it's been engaged.

Finally got through on the New Accounts 0500 number. Got a recorded message saying
"thank you for calling Barclays. Our lines are currently closed. Our lines are open from 8am to 6pm".
Um... it is not even 5pm yet...

LOL!! I'm sorry, but i have to laugh. i tried opening an account in branch, got my form checked as well. i asked in branch 2 weeks later and they told me there was a backlog. 1 week later i got my application back as i hadn't filled in my income :mad: ended up ripping up my form and opening an account elsewhere0
