How Long Should It Take To Recharge MP3 Through USB?

I got an Oregon Scientific MP3 256mb . Its tiny like a box of matches. It doesnt run on ordinary batteries - the battery charges through the USB Port. I have plugged it in on 2 separate occasions now for about 4 hours but it only ever seem to show the battery half charged. Does anyone know how long these take to fully charge from flat or new and I know it sounds daft but is there any kind of portable usb port - I was thinking about when I go on hols or I am somewhere with no access to a computer - is there another way of recharging it.

I dont have experience with that specific player, but as it is through USB any other devices that draw power via USB will have an impact, id expect it to take 6-8 hours to charge a device via usb.

as for charging whilst abroad you will have to see if there is a docking type station option with your player

I have a XCent XT100 which, IIRC, takes about an hour to charge.

Use to have a 1gb one bought from ebay, first charge about 2-3 hours, after that 30mins, although I use to do it everyday. Mine was the same, rechargeable battery inside the mp3 player, very good though.

Like wonderfullife's experience, it does not take long to charge. Do you have access to another pc to try charging it on? This would eliminate the problem being with your USB port.

My IPOD mini has been going for 3 hours, I just leave it over night.

I'm sure it doesn't get full power when I'm using the PC.

Are you sure that your USB port is actually supplying power? The setting is under driver control. Did you receive any driver software with the mp3 player?

Just a thought but if you have an older computer and its only got USB1 ports, then it will take a lot longer than the new ones, which I'm sure you know are USB2.

Cheaper option than the others I linked to earlier and you get a USB hub into the bargain. Think I might get one!
