You did the right thing - as other posters have said, if you are overpaid the company are entitled to claw it back once they discover the error.
  • yes, you did the right thing.

Just noticed I got overpaid this month by about £250. Phoned pay office and they said "no - it'll be right". I told them that I didn't think it was so they agreed to go check. Came back to me and I have been overpaid - so they're going to take it off next months.

Folk in office think I am mad for letting them know - but I did the right thing didn't I? (Oh and its NHS if that makes a difference)

    You did the right thing.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I got paid for two months work after leaving an NHS job. Equated to over £2000. I confessed and then paid it back, but I made sure they were aware it was their error and when they messed up my next lot of overtime not to treat me like a criminal for questioning my payslip!

You did the right thing. They would be entitled to claim it back as I checked this out with a friend in the legal profession, you could probably have negtotiated terms though.
