investment advice is a regulated activity and not something that can be given out on a public forum.
If you want to discuss and comment the things you have looked at then thats fine but no-one here is going to advise you.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I expect a number of people will happily "advise" how an individual should invest, save or otherwise squander their wealth. (DIY share dealing? Gold, anyone?)
However: see above, then see a professional.
A number of people on this board seem to believe that IFAs (by which I mean IFAs, not tied agents or their "used car salesman" ilk) are scammers, only in it for the commission. This is not the case.
If I were ill, I'd see a doctor.
If I had £50,000 to invest... Etc.For the avoidance of doubt: I work for an IFA.0 -

It would be interesting to know at which point they have their Damascian moment of conversion from rogues to saintly pillars of self-denying integrity quite untempted by those succulent commisssion rates as they had previously been. Perhaps we could use the same techniques to rehabilitate young offenders?
By all means get advice but please be aware of the limitations of such advice.0 -
Actually it is amazing how few people (if any) are now offering investment advice on this board and even for savings advice the situation is much more debatable following bank collapses. Even the IFA types on the board are not encouraging people into jumping headlong into the markets as most statistics, even fairly selective ones, cannot show any particularly favourable trends with current equity levels. The guff I was presented with 18 months or so ago when I did the rounds of IFAs would clearly not sell anything to anyone if recent movement in the markets was factored in. It is interesting also that a sort of fatigue has set in as the markets decline, whereas with the FTSE 100 at around 5500 and down to 4500 we were told about possible bargains, with the FTSE 100 declining further a lot of pundit types have shot their bolt and seem to be acknowledging the truth that no-one knows where the market is headed even on a fifteen or so year timetable.0

Please be aware that the majority of IFA's were those villainous tied agents or salesmen before they became IFAs.

Of course. No adviser or financial planner is omnipotent.
However, I would respectfully suggest that obtaining advice from a qualified professional - whatever his or her murky past! - probably represents a wiser course of action than listening to the various nutters and conspiracy theorists haunting the web.
(I include myself in this!)
In addition to this, a regulatory framework exists to "punish" those IFAs / tied agents who act unscrupulously and to offer redress to "victims".
Whereas, the poor soul who tries his or her hand at daily trading after reading the various horror stories posted frequently on these boards - and subsequently loses the lot - can only respond with bitter regret! For the avoidance of doubt: I work for an IFA.0 -

Unfortunately that's down to the fact that it's next to impossible to go straight in as an IFA. I don't particularly want to be a multi-tied adviser first, but IFA firms as a general rule require a minimum time spent selling regulated products in an advisory manner, and that means being a tied adviser for a while.
I'll get there in the end though!I am a Chartered Financial Planner
