insurance unoccupied

Hi I have property which the insurance is about to run out on.The house is semi-detached and unoccupied and has been for a few years. The only terms I could get on the insurance is fire only, but I was thinking there very little chance of it going on fire as electricity is off and no one is ever there. The only way it could go on fire is if the house next door went up,in this case would next doors insurance be lible? cheers

What if next door has no insurance?
What if vandals fancy some arson?0 -

In a word - no.
To claim you would have to prove they were negligent somehow.
Pouring petrol on a BBQ would qualify as negligent.
Rats chewing threw an electrical cable and starting a fire is not - it is outside their control for a start.0 -
Not sure how helpful this'll be but often, if you stay in the property for a weekend here and there within the unoccupied limit set out by your buildings provider they may be able to cover you differently to the property just being empty all the time, eg they may cover it as frequently empty instead of permanently empty and this might be all it takes to get cover back for the other risks like water leaks etc.
Even if you can't do this, surely whatever the cost of the insurance its worth it to ensure you aren't up the creek without a paddle should the worst happen.0
