Airline is Air Asia X and is 25% owned by Virgin, to my knowledge. Even if inaccurate, there is certainly an affiliation.

Air Asia X have finally announced their 5 times a week flight from Stansted to Kuala Lumpur, and they are now bookable. Flights start from 11 March 2009.

    http://www.airasia.com/site/my/en/page.jsp?reference=london2008

Things to note (for your 13 hour flight!).

    - NO checked baggage included - pay between £4 (15kg) - £20 (25 kg) per way

    - NO meals included - £7 each way

    - NO drinks included

    - NO pre-assigned seating

As for credit card surcharges? No idea, maybe the first to book can advise. No doubt you will have to use a Bank of Atlantis Leprachaun Card to escape processing fees (only for cards issued between 1890-1891).

    Also, unsure re- inflight entertainment.

Anyway, currently tonnes and tonnes of seats @ £99 each way available, and remember Air Asia have zillions of destinations within Asia.

I'm not sure if they have yet got 100% regulatory approval, but if it's not a 100% hyper critical trip, then get booking!

You can choose your seats from M$25.

No credit card surcharge and no difficult to remove insurance option either which I seem to remember is a feature of their short haul booking page.

I live in Kl and Air Asia is big here.Like Ryanair at home. Havent flown with them but very cheap internal flights from KLto loads of places including Australia..If flying with a LCC you usually do not use the main airport .The LCC airport is 20 k from the international airport so not as handy to get to if transferring to a National Airline for further travel
So taxi fares depending on the arrival time should be considered as well. They do run buses to the International airport and then you can get a train into KL. They run buses from Lcct to KL Sentral.
One thing to remember it is a long journey. Mind you it cant be any worse than the KLM flight I came out on when I came here.

The Air Asia X flights are using the LCC terminal so it's only if you're transferring to/from a full service carrier does this come into play. If you're on Air Asia X transferring to Air Asia then you're in the same terminal.

Somehow, when I wish to fly Business Class I do so not just because of the seat, but the full pampering package.

So at that price it isn't at all tempting. Can you imagine shelling out £1100 for a return flight and then having to shell out for drinks, luggage and food? I would feel a little insulted.
    Correct me if I'm wrong.

Has anybody got an idea about their seat pitch and seat size, seem to remember reading that both were small, however cannot find the reference now, also their site does not seem to specify. Used Malaysian airlines several times to PG, long way to travel if you are cramped in, also guess there is a stop somewhere??

I bought my tickets yesterday - £222 in total for a return (paid an extra £5 for 15kg allocation outbound, and £20 for 25kg inbound). Booking was very easy and there were no hidden charges, not even for credit cards.

I've flown with Airasia before, though not longhaul. It’s no better and certainly no worse than any budget airline.

I’m Malaysian and fly home at least twice a year. I usually pay between £550 to £660 for my tickets – usually with some Middle Eastern airline on 18 hour flights – so a savings of £300-£400 is nothing to sneeze at, and I would certainly put up with a bit of unluxurious travel for it.
