Malta in March (~w/e 28.03.2009)

Hello!
I am planning to go for some holidays with my friends.
I've got an Airmiles voucher for 1500mile to use and when I saw hotel prices for double rooms in Malta I was stunned!
Anyway. We are plannin to go for about 4-5 days, coming back Sunday. Flying from Gatwick.
Could some of you who have already been there give me some advice?
Ive been thinking about renting a car as it looks fairly cheap (50-70 quid for the whole stay)? Is it worth it? It looks like a bit mountain island and I dont know if renting a bicycle there is possible and wouldnt be exhausting too much
All in all we want to get some rest
What places to see, what to avoid, good places to eat. Any advice is more then welcome!
