From the "T's n C's"There are currently no subscription charges levied on registered users who complete their programme*, have a registered "distance learning" address in England, and who meet the eligibility criteria for LSC funded courses delivered by colleges of Further Education, for the use of vision2learn.
Vision2learn has and accepts no responsibility for the terms and conditions of service of Partner Organisations.
*If you do not complete your programme but nevertheless wish to have registered and certified with NCFE those (“If you undertake your vision2learn programme in a mode which includes attendance at a college then the college may require you to pay a fee”) units that you may have completed, you may be required to pay the relevant NCFE registration and certification costs.
Me being me reads that as, if you dont complete the course, you may be charged. If you comeplete the course, you may be charged for your certificate, and as yet i've not found out how much they might be :-/
bit iffy about it but ill have a look into itHealth is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die0 -
thats what put me off, no sign of what it may end up costing.

I've signed up with them for a course about 2 months ago. I was accepted for a course. Apparently my details was passed to a local college, and I was to have a tutor. I was suppose to be sent a log in and password to access my course online, as it's a homestudy course. I have heard NOTHING about it since!!0

Well that's why I say tread with care. However, as there are no fixed timescale on the course, you could always say that you'll finish it in 2085 if they ask for pots of money.
I understood from the terms that they were hinting that if you didn't finish the course, but wanted all the paperwork filled in to prove where you were upto, then they could levy a charge.
Da Lady - I would go and rattle their cage if they haven't replied to you and see what is going on !
I'm not sure that I would be that outraged to be asked to pay for an exam. But I think the main point with anything like this is to read the details before signing anything.
When they throw words around like "free" it never hurts to be thorough in you primary research.
I've applied, so will let you know as and when things drop through the letterbox.[ Eat, Drink and be Merry - for tomorrow we get the bill ]0 -
Hi
Just thought I'd reply to this as I'm a V2L virtual tutor by day
The courses really are free. The tutor support will be given by your local participating college, and is email/telephone based with some face-to-face support depending on each individual college.
In my 2 years of working for Bedford College supporting these courses, I have never heard of anyone being charged either before, during or after a course, for an exam or for not completing the course.
The colleges receive full funding from the government for offering these adult courses.
In my experience, V2L are a good match for Learndirect, the courses are well-planned and if you get a good support tutor, can be an excellent way of learning new skills from the comfort of your own home.
Can I just add that I'm not in any way employed by V2L, just by the college so I'm not gaining from this post in any way.0 -
I signed up with them for a Call Centre course and cant do it cos my disabled daughter is ill all the time
I am dreading being charged by them and have sleepless nights worrying, I emailed my Tutor and she said I must complete the course by Juneif i had known then what i know now0 -
janiewai,
I wouldn't worry too much. From what nuttytart has said I would find it highly unlikely that you would be charged for anything. I can well imagine that the people running these courses don't want to see them wasted. But in your case what can you do?
From my angle, I haven't seen anything that a court of law would force me to pay for. I've just seen the original link I followed from jobsite.co.uk which says "Online Courses fully funded - and free to you".
If you have a situation there, I would consider writing to them and letting them know where you stand. It would seem that the worst that could happen would be for you to lose your access to the course material. This is not ideal, but I wouldn't start losing sleep over it.
As for me, I shall await the paperwork. I shall certainly give it my best shot. And I hope to keep you all updated.[ Eat, Drink and be Merry - for tomorrow we get the bill ]0 -
Hi,
I am currently doing a V2L course and it has been a positive and enjoyable experience so far. And I haven't been charged anything and don't expect to be either. They should enrol you with a local FE college or one not too far from you and you will be assigned a tutor. My course is entirely online so there are no face to face tutorials. Which is a relief as I cannot make the journey into town.0 -
I was doing one and it was going fine, but then they changed my tutor and my new one won't help with my problems! My old one marked my assignments and wrote comments like if I'd missed something, but my new one won't even tell me which questions are wrong and I can't figure it out!
Also, I've found that some of the questions ask for stuff that isn't covered in that chapter so you have to read on to be able to answer it.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
