I have some carrotts & parsnips that really need to be cooked and eaten today, however theres only me for tea tonight, theres no way I will eat it all! Can I cook now, mask together and freeze, to use as a topping for sheps pie do you think? Do I just mash the veg, or do I add the milk and butter too and then freeze? Totally new to freezing my own food, so sorry for the questions!
Thank you
Oh and how do I reh-heat it, do I need to defrost first or just cook from frozen in the micro?
Thanks againx

Hi
I frequently use the two for mash on the top of shepherds pie, i've always added the butter and milk when mashing and then frozen but i do chuck a few spuds in too.
I'd defrost before cooking too. HTH.

I've also diced carrots and parsnip and ( SHOCK HORROR ) added them to a cornish pastie mix (mince, turnip and onion) and parboiled the veggies before adding to the pastry. I've cooked and then frozen the pasties, but I've also saved the mix (parboiled) frozen so that I can make pasties (or pies) (or whatever) some time later.
