Can someone please tell me the basic steps (or a link!) on setting up a Blog? Is it very hard?
Thanks in advance

Did you know Blog is short for weblog?
Anyway, there are some good sites on the internet that allow you to setup your own blog.
Blogger: http://www.blogger.com/start
MSN Spaces: http://spaces.msn.com/ - This site also allows you to upload your own photographs and has other advanced features (not sure if Blogger has this). If think you need a .NET passport though (you can sign up for one (free) at http://login.passport.com/) Also check you set your permissions on your space here correctly. If you are going to broadcast your blog you need to set them to "Public".

I would go for blogger
It is by far the easiest to set up and very customizeable.
There are also no ads.
And if your blog gets popular google's adsense is integrated into it so you can set up an account and be displaying ads very quickly - That's why there's no ads. Google (who own blogger) want you to start an adsense account and then you're both getting paid for the adverts0 -
Er, but whats the point of a blog apart from airing dirty washing and
telling the world about your life... if thats your thing... I cant see the point of em.0 -

It depends on how you use it.
You can template it up look and feel like a website - with a menu in the sidebar to link to important parts.
Then when you want to ad to it you just make a new post and link to it in the sidebar - Beats messing around with ftp clients.
There'also really popular sites like http://boingboing.net/ that use the blog format0 -
Thanks everyone. I have now set up my weblog!!!0

are there any that you can restrict access to? i fancy setting one up cos my heads mashed and i want somewhere i can vent get it all out. Could just create a word doc but want to be able to do it whether i am0 -
The MSN Spaces service allows you to restrict access to people on your MSN Messenger address list or you can set it to "Private" so only the people you choose can view it. So, if you just signed up for a free .NET Passport, then added no-one to your address list and set your permissions to Private, only you would be able to access it.scheming_gypsy wrote:are there any that you can restrict access to?
MSN Spaces: http://spaces.msn.com/
Your "space" has lots of other features, such as the ability to upload photos, create your own lists for things such as favourite music, books etc., you can customise your homepage by moving different boxes around, change your theme and a bunch of other tasks.

https://www.freespaces.com Any chance of password protecting the index.htm/l file
just like you would do with a directory and then only you would have access
as a log on screen would appear..... Ok its upload syndrome so that may be a bother.
But I suppose you could use http://www.blogger.com/start and just uncheck all the reply too options and just dont tell anyone about the blog itself.0
