DVD burning problem

Having a problem with my DVD burner currently.
Whenever I put in a 'fresh' DVD (ie unburnt) the player doesn't seem to recognise it (seems OK with CD's just funny with DVD's).
On some occassions it does recognise the DVD but even then may not burn properly - it will go thru burn process and appear to be fine but then if you try to use the DVD thereafter it doesn't work !!!
My first thought was that it was the media I was using but not only have I never had a problem with this type before (Datawrite DVD+R Titanium) but I am also halfway thru a 100 stack and have only really experienced a problem over the last 10-15 discs !!!!

I am aware that you can update the firmware of the DVD player (yet wouldn't have a clue how) but have read that you need to know exactly what you are doing here as you can ruin the DVD player if you get it wrong and as such I haven't attempted this and would only do so as a last resort (if I knew what I was doing).

Am I missing anything obvious ?
Has anyone else experienced similar ?
Is there a quick fix ?

Regards,

Mr_F.

  • If it's burning on CDs but not DVDs try different software (the inbuilt windows burner will do). If that works, uninstall and reinstall your burning software.

But it's likely the drive is dying.
  • Silly question but what is the typical life of a drive (appreciate it would prob. depend on how often it is used) but I guess it must be about 5 year old now.

Have tried using a different burner (swapped from Nero to CDBurnerXP) and has made little difference to be fair so you could be right might just be burner on way out :(

Typical life? The proverbial piece of string.

I've burned 1000+ DVDs on my current Pioneer drive, now on it's third motherboard. I've had drives before (and won't buy another Samsung) that died in days.

Clearly your dvd drive is on its way out
You could try a cleaning disc, but I dont think it will fix it.
