I recently wiped my GF's laptop of vista and installed XP
(its not quick enough for vista) install went fine , and I connected it to broadband via network cable and did loads of updates , but I cannot seem to get the pcmcia wireless card working. It was worknig before on vista but when I tried installing it it went through all the motions and appeared to be ok , but it never showed up in "network adaptors" , I looked in device manger and it is there with a yellow question mark , when I click it under device status it says this device cannot start (code10) I have tried a second pcmcia wireless card and it does the same any ideas?

You need the PCMCIA slot drivers for the motherboard as well as the XP drivers. It was fast enough for Vista, that's why it was installed but you, along with countless other morons, have spent too much time listening to the rubbish spouted by people who've never actually used Vista but "heard from a mate of a mate who knows a bloke who said he'd read it somewhere".
I take it this is a legitimate version of Windows XP Retail and not either a pirate version or an OEM version installed in contradiction to the licence agreement as it's not a new computer?0 -
conor , you like countless other !!!!! dont know what you are talking about as you dont even know how old the laptop is , yes it is a legal copy of xp not that its any of your business you muppet. so if you cant help dont bother replying0

Go to the website of the manufacturer of the PCMCIA card and download the drivers for it. It is unlikely you will need special drivers for the laptop's PCMCIA slot but - assuming you installed all the other drivers - you have probably already installed those.0 -

You have the disk - but do you have the latest drivers that may fix faults as you describe?
Check the website.0 -

If the downloaded driver unpacks to more than one file, uninstall the device and when it asks for the software choose the Install from specific location then I will choose the driver to install options the Browse to find the driver within the unpacked location.
If the driver is a single file you may need to get creative and find the location it temporarily unpacks itself to.0 -
I have tried auto running the istaller and intalled by pointing it to the driver file but no good0
