Table lamp vs Ceiling Light

Not sure if this is in the right place but can anyone advise whether a table lamp or ceiling light would use more electricity?

A 100watt bulb will use 100watts of electricity. Only way to reduce it is to use an energy saving equivalent of 100watts.

We use lamps most of the time to save electricity and because we prefer them. However, I know people who use lamps but have so many in one room, they're using as many watts as their multi bulb ceiling lamps.
