in Phones & TV
Hi all
Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the 3,but out of my BB, home phone and Digital TV I need to cut back on the Home phone bill the most..
Just wondering what to do in my situation as I'm paying way over for the top I think for each of the services.
Heres my situation.
Home Phone -with BT average bill £120 qtr all in.
Broadband -NTL £17.99 a month
Digital TV-Sky about £22 a month I think.
Could I please ask what you'd do in my situation to get my monthly outgoings down?I'm no longer tied in to any contracts by the way.
I was thinking of NTL's 3 for £30 package as I can't see how this would be any more expensive
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
regards

Welcome to the Telephone Boards

First of all I would leave my line rental with BT and look to using a CPS for my calls, see Martin's article regarding this here.
Also sign up to https://www.call1899.co.uk for the daytime calls and https://www.call18185.co.uk for calls to mobiles, or perhaps the new one that pricefighter just posted about this morning.
I would phone NTL and tell them you are leaving their bb service and have to hand figures that you can quote where you would get bb cheaper and they should put you through to retention and offer you a better deal. Same with Sky by all accounts, tell them you are going to NTL or buying a freeview box.

I don't want to appear rude ferry but, TBH, the very first thing I think you must do is know about your existing costs, not 'think' (your word in the case of your Sky expenditure).
The BB and Sky are not unreasonable costs so the one to tackle is telephony. AFAICS, NTL's telephone service is more costly than BT's so, as you've got a BT landline, my below comments are based on using that, not expanding your use of NTL.
1. Make sure you are on BT Together Option 1 and paying my DD - cost £11 per month now.
2. Sign up for Primus Saver Option 2 as your CPS and get free evening and weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers.
3. Sign up for 18185.co.uk and use that prefix for all your calls to UK mobiles (there are fleeting cheaper options but 4p connection and 5p/minute during the week and 2p/minute at the weekend is a great saving anyay).
4. Sign up for call1899.co.uk and use that prefix for all your weekday calls to UK 01/02 numbers (3p connection and 0p/minute).
5. Use the 1280 prefix to go back onto BT for calls to 084/087 numbers (if you can't find cheaper alternatives on SayNoTo0870.com).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
and of course I agree with Heinz
