Lucida engina stall ?Gear box?

Options
Any mechanics with knowledge of toyota lucida 2.2td.

Driving home tonight the car suddenly stalled...It fired up straight away again and then stalled again shortly after. It is an automatic. We managed to get halfway up the hill in 2nd when it stalled a third time. We had no warning lights on the dash prior to this.

We managed to get home safely but once home hubby rev'd the engine hard and it seemed to get "stuck"

I've gotta phone the garage 1st thing tmrw....I think the gear box might be gone..does this sound likely or could it be something else?

Thanks for your help.

Those things in life that we find the hardest to do, are the things we are the most thankful we did.

  • I very much doubt its the gearbox, more likely its a faulty engine sensor, or something which causes the engine to lose power.

    Automatic gearboxes are very reliable.

I dont want to scare you but please make sure the heater gets warms and stays warm on tick over for a while.these engines are prone for cylinder head problems and cutting out and slow starting are the classic symptoms.i would advise you take it to a garage immediately for a diagnostic check and an engine block test.these arnt cheap engines to repair...
    Sorry :) :money:

Thank for the replies...but with my car's track record...it's probably worst case scenario:mad: Nothing like being optimistic eh? I;ve already had the engine replaced (January) and lots of other things too...only things left to go are gear box, turbo and bodywork lol! If it is the engine gone - the car will be going to the scrappy in the sky...Garage thinks it may possibly be gear box. It wouldn't start at all this morning. Turns over but doesn't fire.

Anyway...RAC is on its way (Thank god for breakdown companies!) Hoping they'll take it to garage for me.

Nothing like bein kicked when you're down eh still...I'll pick myself back up again and be stronger for it (I hope!)
