Oh dear- well I don't know what else to suggest. Is your mum retired and on a pension? does she own her house bar the loan secured on it? As someone else has said she hasn't had the lightbulb moment, and you can't financially afford to keep bailing her out. I have 2 different sets of friends, far younger than your mum and this is most definately the way they are going and they don't yet see it, but I did think it would come at the poiint you are about to loose your home, from what you're saying obviously not:confused:

I don't think she cares - she's like a reckless teenager with a death wish to boot. A very complex character and I certainly would not have helped her if he were anyone else but my mother. :(

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your situation. I am currently helping out my sister who got herself in a similar predictament 18 months ago. Basically as well as owning lots of money on her credit cards, having several loans she was also in large rent and council tax arrears. I starting helping her out as I thought she only owned several hundred but over time the truth came out and I realised she owned several thousand!

To cut a long story short I am now in control of her finances and together we are slowly paying off her debts. Unfortunately she now owns me a lot of money but she is paying me back very slowly.

However I think she had buried her head in the sand as I way of coping and no matter her much I told her she was in trouble it has taken a lot time for her to realise this herself.

    Good luck.

Would it help if you could go and discuss ir with her G.P. who may throw light on the situation. If you dont live locally he may need your contact details. You could also go and see CAB who could advise you what you can or cannot do tohelp your mum.

sis has been in touch with doc. Spoke to Mum this evening and she sounded upset but she finally thanked me for helping her. She says she will be debt free by 21st Jan, unfortunately members of the family know otherwise so now I know she is probably lying to me (again...)
