I received the following message on fire-fox I am using the latestversion of ubuntu .

Your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted. I pressed the restart button but the message never goes away.

  • Try renaming your Firefox profile (~/.mozilla/firefox) and let Firefox generate a new one?

I had similar behaviour in the past (although with Zenwalk, not Ubuntu), and I remember getting round it by... (and I just know I'm gonna get shouted at here...) logging into X as root (eek!), running Firefox, closing it, then logging out of X... and never ever logging in to X as root again!!!

From the command line: mv ~/.mozilla/firefox ~/.mozilla/firefox.old

    or
use the GUI file manager for the flavour of Ubuntu you installed:
    -Gnome run Nautilis
    -KDE run Konqueror
    -xfce run Thunar

    or
install and use another file manager like xfe (I use this one myself and, if you are new to linux, this has a very "Windows like" look & feel to it)

or...there are probable any number of ways!
