Claiming for flight delay

Hi,

We recently went to Cuba for our honeymoon (well August) and flight home was delayed by 24 hours. We were told we could claim for this and received a cheque for £60, this seems really low as on the back of the letter we received from Thomas Cook explaining reason for delay says we can receive cost of flight back or if an all inclusinve package then the portion of the cost of flights.

The whole honeymoon was a bit of a disaster, both ill, activities advertised not as they should be, etrc but guess I can't claim anything back for that.

What options do i have for rejecting the claim and what should I be expecting?

Thanks in advance

John

What was the reason for the delay? That has a bearing on what is due.
  • there was a mechanical fault with the aircraft. Didn't say what though? Will never go with Thomas Cook again long haul

The starting point is to write to Thomas Cook detailing every problem and see what their response is. A letter of complaint is almost always the first place to start.

The flight delay may be a genuine technical problem with the aircraft, in which case the £60 is actually an insurance payment rather than anything from TC themselves. On the other hand, a honeymoon should be the best holiday of your life... well, anyway being ill, if it was due to food poisoning and not over indulging in the Cuban rum and the hotel not providing what was promised is most certainly an issue that TC should deal with and compensate as appropriate

Yes, But any 'Machine' can fail - even your beloved car.

Just that when an Aeroplane Fails - it fails in a 'big way'

    I should know.

  • Would you have rather the FD crew have opted to fly the A330 back, And risk losing 1 of 2 engine over the 'Pond'??

When your flying a 20 million Aircraft, You don't get paid 70K a year to take risks.
