Dell suck

I recently bought a dell studio 15 laptop at a cost of over £500 and the computer continually freezes when running preinstalled programmes such as the games and the internet kills the system completely.

I reported this problem within 17 days of purchase and was informend by their not so friendly customer support department I would not be entitlled to my money back.

After seveal attempts by their techie people the system still freezes their attempts included downloading a bios, reformatting the intire system and again downloading the bios.

These attempts thus far have been unsuccessful does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this or get my money back?

Thanks Ellie
Dell you suck!

  • try putting the lappy on an oven rack, the pauses could be due to overheating, due to poor ventilation, lifting it off the ground will confirm, or not

  • Is it running onboard graphics or a graphics card?

If you have reinstalled the system then it sounds like a hardware issue not a software issue.

It SEEMS like (because I googled it) you have this: Video Card 256MB ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3450

Can you confirm? can you also confirm the correct ATI software has been loaded and the card is infact working?
  • Oh, and yes, Dell DO suck :P

Sorry, can't believe I missed a chance to oust my inner DellHater ;)

There is a 1 year back to base warranty with all dell stuff. Why not just pack it up and send it back to them (with a returns number). I'd assume they'd arrrange pick up with a carrier.

I assume by recent purchace you mean a few weeks months and not more than 6 months.

The nice Dell customer support person you spoke to doesn't know much about UK consumer law. They might be correct that you can't send it back under distance selling regulations however if the goods have an inherrent (?) fault then for the first 6 months from purchase it would be for Dell to show that the goods were not faulty. Have a word with Consumer Direct 08454 040506 to confirm your rights and then take it up with Dell.
