Virgin Media / Debt collection agency

We left Virgin Media in early October and returned the equipment etc.
Had a final bill of £40ish but did not break down the charges , like on every other VM bill we've had.
Rang VM and said as my monthly D/D is £27 please send me a detailed bill and I will pay it straight away. The C/S asst said will be with me in 7/10 days.
Nothing arrived other than letter from VM customer debt dept. saying if I havent paid within 14 Days , they would take it further.Wrote a letter to VM saying how disgusted I was they could send this type of letter out when all I wanted was a detailed bill , along with a cheque to cover the O/S bill of £40.
Then this Saturday morning another letter arrived from a Debt collection agency saying that they were working on behalf of VM and would be taking steps to recover the amount.
As we are renting for a year and buying next Year , will this affect my credit rating ?
If so , should I ring Virgin and give them some grief as this is their fault for such a heavy-handed approach to a former ideal customer ?
Thanks

Don't take this carp from them. They have to take it to court to put an entry on your account as I understand it. Stand your ground, you are right to expect a breakdown - and the lack of such a breakdown would give you a fairly watertight dismissal if it got to court. But DO make sure you WRITE, recorded delivery and keep a copy [no more phone or email] - to ask for the breakdown first, to protect your position. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
THis is VM @ there best to be honest. As above post says stick by your guns and get it sorted.
Keep copies of all letters you send
Send all letter's by recorded delivery
If they call you to discuss it ask them to put it in writting

You understand wrong. This is why so many people have their credit files littered with 'defaults'. These are NOT court Defaults, but when the creditor advises the CRA of difficulties in getting payments from you - however as far as lenders are concerned, BOTH defaults are treated in much the same way. Indeed, firms now don't bother taking consumers to court, they sell it on to collectors - they use the CRA default instead.
And to the OP, yes, VM can and will mark the payment as late or in default, as it happens automatically. However they can also remove it, so rather than deal on the phone, you may find having a paper trail by writing protects your interests.0
