I always start upstairs then work my way downstairs because if i done it the other way around upstairs wouldnt get done as often.By time ive done upstairs im usualy sick as a chip of cleaning but i cant just leave downstairs a mess incase someone pops in so it has to be done too and i cant stand sitting in chaos.I think the decluttering realy worked for me aswell. It took me two month to declutter the whole house but it was worth it,as i decluttered i was also cleaning every nook and cranny and my life is so much simpler.

I agree with the decluttering, it makes everything so much easier!

Also ,I have a blitz every morning which helps keep on top of things.Little and often is my motto! dont leave everything untill it looks unsurmountable! ;)

having a list of jobs is also a good idea and tick them off as theyre done. You can see what you've achieved then :snow_grin

Every morning (unless I'm on the early shift) I always clean the loo, wash the kitchen floor(3 dogs) and vac downstairs as well as wash up and put the WM on.I can't bear going out and leaving a mess to come home to.

I am going to follow some of the ideas on here as well. I was involved in an accident in April last year and for about 4 months, couldn't do anything. Hence, my house is a total tip. The solicitors told me to get someone in to help with the chores, but I couldn't invite anyone in - especially in the mess that we have now got. I am overwhelmed with it all but have decided that this year I am going to throw away and declutter and to take it a bit at a time and get straight. My house is embarassing if anyone calls.

2 months eek:eek:. I wondered if you'd mind giving some more details, about whether you did this round working or with children at home or at school. i have exactly 3 weeks to get sorted before I start a college course. Eldest is at school 9-3.30. 2 year old at home with me. Have started today in her bedroom and would appreciate any tips.

Hi In the current edition of house beautiful magazine there is a free smaller magazine called storage secrets for every room - tackle your clutter hot spots once and for all.

It has decluttering plans you can do in 20 mins, one hour, a morning and a weekend. Ideas for the living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

I thought it was very helpful and I think it can help some of you on your path to tidyness.

Thanks so much for the ideas.I'm going to take the plunge and start posting in the daily thread so i've an incentive to get it done every day :)
Alison, good luck hun, i know what you're going through :grouphug:
Thanks for the tip Kylah, i'll get that magazine when the dog and i go for our walk this afternoon :)
I am going to do it in small bits and hope that after a couple of months i will be into a routine and the clutter will be gone! But if it takes longer i'm not going to beat myself up about it!

Okay, Flylady without the Lady :D

If you have a kitchen timer, set it for 15 minutes. Step in through the door and work from left to right with 3 bags or boxes, one is rubbish, 2 is to put away and 3 is don't know. At the end of 15 minutes stop and empty rubbish, put away items into appropriate rooms and take a breather. If you feel up to it and the room still isn't finished then do another 15 minutes, repeat until you have had enough.

Work around the house in this way for as long as you feel like it or until the whole house is sorted, that's when you can work on a routine to keep it tidy, until then all that counts is that enough clutter is cleared so you don't feel so overwhelmed by it all.
