Krishna, those are fantastic! what an excellent idea, and thankyou so much for the Scooby links - VERY much appreciated!
£Ronnie, thanks for your info on the Tesco cakes too, the only problem being that my son is allergic to egg so i have to make all cakes from scratch with egg-free recipes
I did get a bargain last night though - a Scooby Doo cake in Tesco reduced to £2.00 for cutting up and sending home with his friends when he has his party!

Oh, and i am i right in thinking you put the icing on the paper then once the parts have all dried you assemble them on top of the cake?

I would personally use a brown (scooby colour) sugarpaste/icing to ice the cake, but be warmed the cakes do not always show all the detail and indents of the cake tin, so with bits of icing, like sausage shapes, you could build up areas that really need emphasising! i.e. (if this is the cake! http://www.cybercakes.com/Pans/scooby.gif)

maybe highlight the collar and where the tip of the ear cocks over and around his mouth and his nose, eyebrows! Then cove the whole thing in brown icing (the ready to roll stuff, coloured brown!

then I'd cut out his collar from blue icing and place this to the cake (believe it or not, vodka is the best "glue" to use because it is odour free and dries out better than water (you can't taste the vodka afterwards on the cake!) Place on his whites eyes and black nose and mouth in the same way, then his tougne! Lastly use a piping tube to create outlines and details!

    hope this helps!
