  • paignton and brixham tend to be cheaper than torquay, remember though traffic is hectic in summer due to one road in and out of torbaby so it may be a factor to cosider

I've used cosylettings in paignton, found them good. What sort of accommodation are you looking for e.g. family house, one bedroom flat? Do you need to be near school? Give us some ideas of your needs and we can recommend somewhere.

Sorry... should have put more detail!

We need a 2 or 3 bed place, flat ok as long as has access to garden. We have 3 cats which is causing an issue!
Needs to have a school fairly close by as my daughter starts in September.

My partner really wants to be able to cycle to work at South Devon College, but I would prefer to live further out in a village! I think he may win tho!

Should be able to get somewhere on Roselands or Hookhills (they are Roselands and White Rock Primary Schoolsand you can find their websites through Torbay Council site.) if you want to be near to the college. Both nice residential estates with nice schools. If you want something more villagey Galmpton or Stoke Gabriel would probably be nearest. Good luck. Oh just thought Collaton St Mary is nice but busy Paignton to Totnes road runs through it. Very good primary school, one of the best in the Bay I seem to remember.

  • What are the chances of this...

I have a four bed house that I own and am looking to rent out on Davies Avenue in Paignton. It's within walking distance of the best school in Paignton (Whiterock Primary) and easy cycling distance of the college. Its on with cosylettings and bradleys. Not sure If I am allowed to the post the link to the actual house so I wont. But the phone number for cosylettings is 01803 556996 and Bradleys is 01803 557155.

Feel free to pm me for more information.

Thanks, I found it on cosylettings. Unfortunaly we cant afford it, our max is about £200 lower.
Rental prices are high down your way and my partner's wages are staying the same and I havent found a job down there yet! The rent on the house we own is only going to cover the mortgage so we going to be tight for money for a while!

Thanks so much for thinking of me tho :T

  • you could always negotiate;).

the local newspaper there is the herald express - give them a ring and ask to buy a copy/subscribe for a while.

the property section (buying and renting) comes out on a friday - this will have most of the local agents in there plus private lettings.

has your OH thought about asking his new employers for help ie. is there an in-house noticeboard etc? is there a relocation package?

Are the holiday parks that do long term lets? I am finding is soooooo hard to find a place we can afford!
How do people afford to live down there?! It doesnt help that we i used to paying our mortgage which is lower than you can rent a 2 bed for.

  • i would always say that you have 2 cats or just say 'cats' - no-one will notice exactly how many you have;) . i have been in the same boat - have cats and dogs.

sometimes it's easier to get a slightly less pristine property to rent (i don't mean dirty, maybe just a little more old/worn) - that way the owners don't mind pets so much and you will also find the rents are lower. if something (often a larger property) has been 'for rent' for a while offer a rent reduction (start lower than you actually want to pay).

you really need to find out what the relocation package is - it does get costly, what with paying rent, mortgage, fees, removals etc. get OH to ask asap.

do you plan to buy eventually if all goes to plan?
