Home Cinema

Can anyone recommend a good home cinema system? I have been looking for a dvd which was multiregional and can also record from the TV like my video recorder. I was also considering wireless but told the technology is not very good. Told also not to waste time buying branded products like Sony since I would just be buying LG or Samsung packaged by Sony. Now I am really confused! Do i need HD or Freeview? What should i be looking for so that my system is not obselete by the end of the year>

Go with Pioneer as they make their own stuff, competitively priced and the standalone gear is tuned so that sounds ok with music. anything that can handle DTS Discrete or 7.1 will be good enough for a year at least.

If u want HD then u'll need an HD tv and they are expensive and it's only on sky (soon) and dvd for now. If u don't have sky or cable or freeview already then would strongly recommend a freeview adaptor as analogue tv starts switching off soon.

  • If you're not strapped for cash, buy Denon - the best (imho).

Toxteth, Denon looked good when the guy in Harrods showed it to me but it is quite expensive. The subwoofer is not as big as others. I am amazed at the size of subwoofers

I bought the Yamaha AV57 amp/speakers, but they also do a system with dvd player. I already have a dvd/divx player Yamada 6700. The amp is brill, its much larger than the cheap one's and the sound is awesome, the little speakers can certianly take large amounts of volume. Comes with a FM radio and plenty of connection at the back.

I have two dvd players, freeview, tv, ipod mini connected. Theres also room to connect a 2nd set of speakers. Can be found for around £180.

I mainly paid more for a system because I was confused like you were but I wanted a system for awesome sound and wanted it to play music/radio to replace my stereo and it certainly done that

As Normal states, we really need to know your budget ! Systems start as low as £99 and I have heard an exceptionally good system costing £50k+ !!!! Also, we need to know how big the rear speakers can be, and whether you need floorstanders or stand mount speakers at the front.

i want to spend between £150 and £300. I prefer speaker stands as opposed to wall mounted speakers. I saw a pioneer system today where all the speakers are at the front - not sure how good the sound would be with this - but it was £199.
