Went into a branch the other day to pay cheques in and was spoken to by a member of staff and ended up opening a ISA - I know the staff have targets! Anyway when i was in the office with a customer advisor , she mentioned that as I had a few outgoings - maybe consider a loan to get rid of all my CC's etc. I said ok - and that i would be surprised if I were accepted! I was for £8k - now the questions I have are -

I checked my credit files and no search was undertaken? Is this normal? I have only had the account for a short while - but she said as my salary goes in - and bills etc comes out it shows the bank a bit about me. The bank is Natwest.

i believe they have pre-approved limits.

I know some banks work like this , but did'nt think Natwest did - a few weeks ago I applied on-line for a credit card with them and was declined (they did search Experian then) so thats why I was surprised.

so they give you a 8k loan but wont give you a credit card that sums them up.

did you get a servicecard straight away as well?

I opened the account in June and they gave me a servicecard100 .

Well the customer advisor filled in the paperwork on her computer and she said yes its been approved - printed the forms off and I signed etc . She then said the money will be in my account and it is! But as I said no checks on my CRA file?

So you got it! Which CRA did you look at to see if there was a credit check?

Credit cards are processed through a different department/system so might be the reason they searched on there and not for the loan.
