anyone know where to look for work placements

Hiya,
im on an industrial placement at a large coporation at the moment and if you need any help at all i'd be glad to, just pm me your email and ill add you to my msn.
Im also in IT and found that my uni were very active in getting us to apply for a lot of jobs, however the ones which I got interviews for were either massive corporations (going via their own web site) or small local web design companies (which I applied for by going through my yellow pages and sending off a good cover letter and cv). research the companies which you apply for or you may end up with a placement which you dont find particularly applicable to your anticipated career direction.
My job is not amazingly applicable to my course, however I have found the experience within industry invaluable and really does give you a well rounded degree in my opinion. I think your best bet is to apply to companies via their recruitment sections on their websites, also contact local companies (by post) which you may be interested in. I wouldnt try to narrow down the type of work you do too much. I do multimedia production and technology however the interviews i received call backs for were html / networking / web based and not massively multimedia related. I think that by limiting yourself to games testing then you may not actually get a placement.
:xmassmile They are hard to find and everyone wants one so it may be better to settle for one which is not 100% applicable (however may change your mind about the direction you wish to take) rather than none at all. Theyre a great confidence boost and its life in the real world for 48 weeks. You will be paid £10-18,000 typically, you can receive up to half of your loan and will not pay council tax. you do however have to pay national insurance, income tax (you may be entitled to a rebate for some of this depending upon how your working year lies calendar wise) and obviously things like rent and bills and tv licence.
anyway ive rambled but if you need any more advice feel free to pm me.
Good luck and get out there! get applications in asap!
