hi just got one of these wireless network things from PC work the ones down to £39.99,I have 2 pcs and a laptop with wi fi ,so was told this is the right thing for me as i have an ADSL internet connection, now the problems began put in the CD and went though the installed program only to be told that it couldnt connect to router to reset to factory setting, done that still cant connect to router but this time asked me to connect to Linksye tec support .But when I restarted the computer, XP picked it up as new hard wear so when I went though it that way and installed it and found I could get on to the internet, also found the second computer could connect to the internet, but they cant connect to each other so cant share files or printer which is what I need it for. When I tryed to connect the laptop it cant find any wireless network please can any one help or do I have to bring it back and when I did get on to linksye web site it did a check on the my computer and says there was no problems with the router please can any one help

Do you have a software firewall on the PC's (which would potentially block access), and have you enabled file and print sharing?
Check the wireless sticky thread, as that is full of tips/queries on this subject.
Have you actually turned wireless on, on the router, did you enter a SSID, if so, you need to tell your laptop to connect to this ssid.
If you are broadcasting your SSID, you could download netstumbler from netstumbler.org, this may help identify whether your wireless is working at all on the laptop, as it scans for any wireless networks in the area (broadcasting a SSID)
When you get it working, don't forget to setup encryption, turn off SSID broadcasting etc..(if you haven't already), otherwise you'll be sharing your connection with your neighbours..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
You cannot access shared files and folders or browse computers in the workgroup

Someone posted a similar problem a while ago. The problem was a security issue. I'll see if I can dig out the answer and post back... :think:0

It is related to setting up printers but it is the same for file/printer sharing.0 -
I bought the £39.99 Linksys package for my FIL's laptop and it works perfectly. I didn't need to use the CDs, just followed the 'Quick set-up' guide included in the box (I only needed the router/ modem as his laptop was already wireless).
A few pointers:
Did you run the 'Set up a home network' wizard?
Have you set up your internet connection to be shared on a network (rather than connecting directly from the PC?).
Have you clocked on 'Connect' on the internet connection on the Linksys set-up page?
Try to set up your connection using the ethernet cable and get that working before setting up a wireless connection. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
