Details
S.W.I.N.E. is a funny, though exquisitely detailed execution of a Real Time Tactical Strategy (RTS) game. The emphasis is on understanding the psychology of the leaders and employing that knowledge in executing tactics and strategy rather than purely on action. The game is built on a sophisticated, fully functioning RTS engine supporting complex unit deployment algorithms and featuring an innovative physical modelling system that creates highly detailed animations. Employing the features of the terrain and using the special abilities of the units, even a small army is capable of defeating a bigger, and seemingly stronger enemy.

Requirements/Recommendations
Windows 95/98/2000 Processor: Pentium 466 MHz or Higher Video Card: 32 MB 3D Graphics Accelerator Hard Drive: 900 MB HD CD-ROM: 4X or Faster RAM: 96 MB RAM

Review
So here come the pigs. Snowball would be proud. Those foul smelling repulsive looking swine are on the attack. They are hell bent on taking the carrot patch by brute force if necessary. The rabbit army is ready to defend their homeland though rest assured. It’s walking bacon versus the flustering fur balls. Place your bets because its any ones match.
The pigs are vulgar bad-mannered hunks of skin with thick accents. Perhaps the accents are supposed to be Russian or German, very harsh sounding in any case. The tanks are slow moving mechanized guns of mass destruction with heavy armor. What they lack in intelligence they more than make up for in numbers.

The rabbit army is agile and led by intelligent leaders. They are outnumbered, but have reverted to a hit and run gorilla tactic which has proved very efficient against the moronic pig guard. The rabbit units are fast because they are not as heavily protected with armor. Did I mention the characteristic French drawl?

You can pick your sides, and battle it out as either pig or rabbit in this little real time strategy based title. Or you can choose up sides with an elite unit on the net and cause carrot destruction that way. There isn’t much in the way as far as micro managing is concerned. You can basically just jump in and point and click your way to victory with whatever units you’ve got.

There isn’t much depth to the amount of units that can be created however. This is disappointing. I was hoping my rabbits would have a bacon processing plant for all those refugee pigs. Many of the earlier missions can be defeated in a few minutes. So you might want to beef that difficulty level up as high as it can go before you start playing. The fog of war that clouds the battle map is a bit misleading. Often times you will not see an enemy unit until you roll right into it. This is especially fun when you are outnumbered.

Still the graphics are kind of cute, and I suppose the silly talking pigs will amuse some gamers. For a few minutes anyway. There just isn’t much to the gameplay to make this much of an interesting addition to the RTS genre. Commander units can call in air strikes or rabbit strikes. Some artillery units can burrow into the ground. Gamers can earn battle points, which they can put toward buying new units. Just more of the same units really. Control is simple though, and I’d have to say this might be a worthy diversion for a young gamer or perhaps a casual gamer, but a veteran gamer should seek elsewhere for that delicious, in-depth RTS fixin.

Reviewer's Scoring Details

Install: Easy
Insert and install. Can be done with your eyes closed. Literally.

Gameplay: 7
Kill pigs. Kill rabbits. Buy more units. Kill pig tanks. Kill rabbit tanks.

Graphics: 8
The visuals are actually very well done here. Better than expected anyway. Unfortunately Swine does not offer enough depth to take advantage of them.

Sound: 7
Not much here. Thunder sounds pretty neat.

Difficulty: 7
This game is rather easy. Can provide a silly diversion at best.

Concept: 7

Multiplayer: 7

Overall: 7
The graphics weren’t bad, and the control was simple enough, but there just isn’t enough depth to the game. Perhaps the casual gamer would enjoy this one as a humorous diversion to work. Maybe download this puppy for a lunch break of battle squealing fun while polishing off a nice greasy bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. Wish I could add more, but there just isn’t much to it. Buy it as an accompanying gift to Animal Farm.

(Cheers to nero2 on DVDFourms for original find of game)
