Advice required! Cheap holiday in January 2009?

Hi all,

I'm a first-time poster but a long-time reader of the boards. I thought it might be worth asking some advice with regards to a possible holiday for my girlfriend and I in January 2009...

Our "criteria" are as follows:

1) It's got to be cheap! We're both students, so cheap flights and a favourable exchange rate really have to be our main priority. We don't mind staying in youth hostels, so flight-only deals would be okay.
2) We're based in Edinburgh, so ideally would fly from here. Aberdeen or Glasgow wouldn't be impossible though!
3) We'd like to be away for 4-7 days.
4) With regards to destination, somewhere hot would be great... But I'm not sure how likely that is given we're talking about January!

What do you think is the best way for us to look for a "last-minute" deal if we're not too fussy where we go?

If anyone has any recommendations for airlines, package deals or places to visit then please post a reply - Any help or advice we can get would be gratefully recieved!

Thanks very much for reading.

Also how flexible are your travel dates?

  • Hi guys, thanks for your replys.

Incapuppy - Our budget is miniscule unfortunately! We couldn't spend more than £200 on the flights; cost is our primary concern. With the research I've done so far I'm not sure it will be possible.

Spiro - Our dates are quite flexible, anytime after around the 7th of January up until mid-February should be fine.

Have you tried the flight checked under the Travel section of the main moneysavingexpert website? Currently doesn't cover Ryanair but you could just type in an amount, just did a quick check and Alicante and Malaga are coming in around £40-50 return (on Ryanair).
