I stated that I was surprised to see someone state that they perceived that engineers are on a par with other professionals in the UK. Given that I am a professional engineer and that the common perception in the UK is that an engineer is someone who fixes your car/TV, I stated that this may be a turning point.

Clearly with all your CSE's you didn't understand.

Oh God, please lets not start the "Engineer Pay" debate again. I doubt my heart could survive the excitement!

Why only 45%? It should be at least 70% on fatcats earning over £150K

Brindley and Stephenson will be turning in their grave, all their achievments and so little formal education (at least in their youth).

On what basis? Don't forget they are above average earners but also above average taxpayers already.

There's a lot of jealousy over people earning high wages... I thought it was something that people would aspire to. I can't imagine anyone on here turning down 100k plus salary and honestly can't see wy it would make someone a leech.
    .
Nonsense, even when they've paid the 45% they will still take home at least 10 times that of someone who sweeps the streets and who works just as hard, if not harder.

The problem is that a lot of people who earn above this are very mobile, a number of them would just leave the country along with their business. Those who aren't mobile probably have very good accountants, so wouldn't pay anyway.

been tried. didn't achieve much before. the rich people still get richer they just pay money to accountants instead of the tax man; better value for money.

all that will happen is armchair communists will get all angry about the rich people avoiding their 70% tax bill.

Not much of an argument really , is it? If what you say is true, then they won't be paying any of the 40% they should currently be paying, so why worry if it's increased to 70%?
