Ever been unable to dial beyond 4 digits ?

Guyz

Got the most curious fault on my phoneline - which is CPS'd to Touch Telecom - part of the e7even group of companies.

I can dial FOUR digits but once FIFTH digit is dialed, I just get a repeated DURH noise - loud strident and repeated - not one I'm familiar with. So I can dial 1571 for instance to check for BT Call Minder msgs. I can't dial a regular 0123... number as fails at 5th keypress; tried various others 0800... and even 1280... to be routed over BT - all fail with the same symptom of not proceeding beyond 4 key presses. Incoming calls get through fortunately.

Never seen or heard of this type of fault before hence the question here. (I have logged a fault with Touch Telecom but don't expect them to be at work on a bank holiday.)

You sure you've not been put on "incoming calls only" for non-payment of a bill ? :)

Ginger - sometimes the obvious answers are the best aren't they ?

The symptoms were such and so consistent that I never imagined for one moment it was my handset.

You're right - today for some reason that handset has gone dotty! The second handset on that same DECT setup works just fine too!

So something wrong with that microprocessor DECT phone handset suddenly. Cited Touch Telecom needlessly on this occasion - though they were to blame for the other problems!

THANKS Ginger - should have done that basic check without prompting!

PS Found the manual - only a 1yr warranty and it's 2 yrs old tomorrow! - BUT going manual steps for Factory Reset has made it work again - AND it did NOT lose my phone book - phew. Thanks again
