Weird problem with touchpad

I can use my laptop touchpad if I don't have the charger connected, otherwise the curson goes haywire.

I only need to cross over a paragraph or link with the cursor and it opens it up, I just can't control it properly.

Take the charger out and work by battery and the cursor is fine.

Does anyone know how to cure this please as I can't use the laptop unless the battery is charged and then I can only use it for about an hour or so before having to put on charge again, then I can't use it because it is plugged in!

  • That's a very odd fault.

    What is the laptop, make/model?

It's an old basic Dell Latitude CPi A series that we use just to browse the forums, I think it is only 400mhz.

Had a similar problem on an old Novatech laptop. Might not be the same problem, but -

There was a tiny crumb or particle stuck in the corner of my touchpad. Was OK unless touched then the cursor went haywire. Problem was worse when running on mains power, almost unnoticeable on battery.

Blasted it out with some air and all was well. No idea why it was better with only the battery on though.

Turn the laptop over, and tighten - gently - all the screws on the underside. One is probably fractionally loose.

Nope, just tried it and thought it had worked until I realised the flippin' lead isn't in.

    Doh!
