Dear All,
Hope you can help me with this problem. My brother is on Windows 95, using the Vista programme. He has sent me an e-mail attachment with the docx file extension on, which I cannot open (I am on Windows XP) and he doesn't know how to disable this at all. He has also tried sending it to someone on Windows 2000 and they can't open it either.
Could anyone give me step by step instructions so that he can send e-mail attachments which other people can then view.
Kindest regards and here's hoping.

Specifically, he needs to use the Save As > Word 97-2003 Document option, which will give it the .doc extension rather than .docx.
The easier thing to do, though, might be for you to download the compatibility patch as mentioned above, which will allow you to open .docx files in earlier versions of Word. As more people switch to Office 2007, you might find yourself receiving more docx files.0
