New TV Help

I am in the market for a new TV and its time to get rid of my 20" Bush that I have had for 5 years !!!!

I am looking for a 37" screen as our living room is not too big and I guess LCD is the in thing to have at the moment?

Any particular make I should go for? Sony? Samsung? I would like to plug in my laptop and watch through TV at some point as well

Any good bargains going at the moment? Or should I wait for the xmas sales on Boxing day to come round?

I wouldn't go for Sony, too expensive and not superior enough to justfy the price tag. Samsung are good for their money, as are LG. The best in my opinion are the Toshiba sets, they generally have the best performance/features/price ratio.
Whatever model you decide to go for, shop around, especially online (use google) as you can save up to £100-200 in some cases over the high street.

Thats so wrong I cant believe it!
Sony are THE best LCD tvs money can buy and WELL worth the cash. Samsung are good yes.

LGs have ,made some seriously BAD tvs over the last couple of years (Great on paper, awful in practice), and Toshibas screens have been known to fail after a years running in (As do Sharps)

So id recommend Panasonic or Sony personally

I'd vouch for the above, Panasonic and Sony do excellent LCD screens, even at the budget end. But whichever TV you go for, go for one that has a decent warranty to back it up, as even the big brands can go wrong. Hotukdeals often have TV's, in fact I think there is a Toshiba 37" for £399 right now.

  • and I guess LCD is the in thing to have at the moment?
    Not necessarily so

really depends what you intend to watch on it Freeview or Sky HD, sports ( footy ) etc

Plasma generally accepted to be better for SD content i.e. freeview or std SKY- and also for fast moving stuff - footballs and the like

Panasonic have the highly thought of 37" plasma model 37PX80

I'm biased I have the 42" version, and rate it very highly, and notice the superior picture quality every time I return from a business trips staying in hotels where its seems LCDs are the mainstay

If your living room isn't too big why a 37inch TV? There are calculators out there which will help you choose the best size.

My parents have an LG and to be honest it's rubbish. I think this is partly because it's too large for how close you are when watching it.

Our venerable JVC CRT is about 6 years old - I saw the same TV being sold in Asda a few months ago for about £100 as an end of line, if I'd had room to store it I'd have bought it for when ours gives up the ghost.
