Kenwood SJSB21 microwave - recalled

Sorry mods, not sure where to post this but feel it is important for safety reasons if nothing else.

I have just returned my second of these microwaves to Currys. The first one was bought in June. It developed 3 faulty LED lights after about 2 months. The second one was fine until this week. Suddenly it lost 3 LED lights too (in the same position as the other one. What was worse was the smoke that appeared in the kitchen after using it. :( I took it back to Currys this afternoon to discover that Currys have just recalled all of this model. I wonder how many more of these have the same fault.

I think there was a thread about the Dixons offer price of this in June but can't find it.

I thought that would probably be why they were recalled. Do you know if they are also recalling those already purchased. Or are they hoping that if people have a problem they will bring them back?

I bought one of these in January (2010) from Currys which has started to spark and smoke but how was I still able to do this if it was recalled? I don't have the receipt anymore, are they likely to offer a replacement without it?

How do you intend to convince Currys that you did indeed buy it in January 2010?

Strictly, you don't need to produce a receipt.
An alternative proof of purchase will do.
  • Bank or credit card statement? If not return it anyway and give them as many details as you can - day, date, how you paid and card number if you can. They have access to a stock system that gives them the product code and they can also search the transaction if you can give them enough details. Worth a try.
  • Hi, does anyone have official info about this recall? Just found this thread and now realise that my faulty microwaves were faulty all along and nothing to do with me. Took it in to Currys today and after some initial fobbing off and me standing my ground the sales assistant made some enquiries. Unfortunately the store systems apparently don't hold information about recalls that happened more than two years ago. I searched the web as did he but couldn't find anything about the recall other than forum posts and the suchlike. If I can get something official then he can help. I've emailer Kenwood and awaiting a response. One of the posters here mentioned working for Currys and knowing about the recall. Can you help?
    Thanks all
