Using a TV as a monitor?

I don't really need to watch programmes on TV as they're broadcast so I see no reason to continue paying a TV license now we have catchups online. What do I need to turn my TV into a monitor for my computer?

  • Your TV will still have the tuner in it and the tv licence is for any equipment that can receve TV signals. So even just using the tv as a monitor you will still have to pay the fee.

You will have to get a big monitor and get rid of all things that can be used for tuning TV signals.

    Not true.
You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV.

So is there a way to actually use a TV as a monitor?

    Yes it is.
  • you can buy a VGA (D-sub) or DVI to HDMI adapter cheap enough (couple of quid on ebay) to do the job
