2xTeachers look for summer jaunt

Hi

Both myself and my fella are teachers and we are in the process of looking for our summer holiday, but we are totally stumped as to where to go. We want to avoid Canaries/Greece etc, as we have been loads of times, and in recent years have even bumped into the odd kid we know, which when you want to get away from it(them)all is a nightmare situation. I have scanned this board in the last half hour for ideas, but have only come up with Egypt.

We want to go end of July 7/10/14 days don't really mind, can fly from anywhere, just want hot, lazy days but option for adventures if we want to. Budget is probably about £1000 each, don't mind A/I as we have done that before, but not Dominican Republic as I have been before. Any suggestions for destinations or indication of what the best sites to look at are gratefully received.

As an employee with about 30 days plus bank hols to play with I can't understand why more teachers don't just disappear for the whole of the summer?

We have done 2 to 3 week road trips to Europe, travelled around the US etc, the most expensive bit is usually the flight or ferry. You could have a fabulous time exploring France, Spain and Italy, camping or B & B if the budget is tight.

Enjoy the rest of this holiday, I go back tomorrow !

How do you still have a week of your holidays left??!!!!

Am also a teacher and know the feeling of getting away from the kids, though haven't yet bumped into them thankfully.

What sort of holiday do you want? Culture or beach?

How about Israel/red sea kind of holiday? Or a mainland spain? One summer we went to Italy and visited Florence and Venice...no danger of bumping into my kids there...

    Cuba? Cancun?

Friends went pony trekking in Iceland one summer and loved it. Others went to Denmark and Sweden for their summer and had a ball.

I can't speak for starkiller, but I know as a primary teacher I had no time in the summer to go jaunting as I spent at least 2 weeks in my classroom sorting it out for September and at least a week planning the work they will do. But I loved my job, not complaining at all, just telling it like it is.

    How about Jordan?
Same weather as Eilat (Sunny). Relaxing days on the beach, snorkeling plus the chance to visit Petra and the Dead Sea. And very little chance of bumping into a pupil. It is a very safe country and the Jordainians are very friendly.

    hi starkiller!

have repied to your pm, but just thought on. there is a fabulous independent specialist travel agent in my home town, that will do their utmost to tailor make anything for you, it would be a good starting point, they are cheaper than they sound, but if you do get a price from them, do some price comparison searches first before you commit.

    their website is https://www.journeysalacarte.co.uk

hth, if you need any further help, pm me.

    xx

Some static caravan parks are adult only.

Have you thought of renting a villa? I go to cyprus in school holidays. My parents have a villa which is in a very central location in a main resort. However I find it gives more privacy than staying a hotel. I am also a teacher and have found this option works well for me.

I have always fancied going away for the whole summer as I am a teacher. I never finds out it works out that way as I end up coming back for things like weddings, hospital appointments, people coming to visit me. I guess also as a single parent I do have a fairly tight budget and don't really like camping which would be the only feasible option for that length of time.
  • Thanks for all the replies. Thanks for the message too Gentlepurr :)

You guys have given me a lot of ideas. When I sat down and tried to think for myself couldn't get away from Med/Greece etc. Good job im not a Geography teacher :):)

Going to be having a butchers today see what I can find, may be back soon to see whether you think it a good deal or not.
