Hi guys, my pc of 10 years has finally given up on me, as i have had it over 10 years now i feel that it dont owe me nothing and would rather buy a new one rather than pay the £200+ i have been quoted to get mine up and running again.
Basically, the kids are now grown up and all i really use the pc for nowadays is general surfing, downloading the odd music file, storing pics, etc etc...
I dont need anything flashy nor huge (memory wise).
I have been looking around on the web and have got my eye on this,, http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0077849325.1227454697@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccecadefkdmkgilcflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&category_oid=-35410&page=Product&sku=357234&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null
Can anyone tell me is this ok for my needs or can anyone else suggest anything better or cheaper for my requirements?
I really dont want to go over the £300 mark.

It`s nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.

Hi,have a look at tesco direct. They have some good offers and you can buy a new printer for £10 when buying certain ones.I think it's HP ones.Good luck regards.By the way this was a laptop computer.0

looks alright for the money, fit another gig or 2 of ram yourself (£20-40) to help vista along.
You could probably build a bit better for the same price if you were happy to playUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

I doubt it.
The 10year old machine has probably been running XP quite happily with no problems (aside from age taking its toll).
The new machine is trying to run Vista on a poor processor with only 1GB Ram which has 250MB removed for the integrated graphics so only 750MB Ram in effect.
The PC World machine will run like a dog as soon as it is tasked to perform anything.
Its a truly budget machine but for the price with monitor you can't really complain.0 -

Hi there, my old computer wont even turn on!
I have had a guy take a look at it to try to sort out what the problem is as it only bleeps when you plug it in, he has assured me that the processor has gone as has the motherboard (sorry, not too technical myself..). He said it is way too big a job for him to try to sort and that i have to take it to a professional as it needs "marrying" up.
I do trust what he is saying, and like i say, i would rather put the extra couple of quid towards a new one with a guarantee.
Also, i have updated my original monitor to a flat screen and have also updated my keyboard and mouse etc etc as these things are 2 a penny, all i really need is the actual tower... so if anyone can suggest a better tower for less than 300?
TIAIt`s nice to be important, but its more important to be nice.

Yes, why not? This will do what you want. It is rock-bottom base spec but you aren't gaming or editing video, so who cares.
Nice thing about PC World is you can return it yourself if it fails under warranty.
It is worth looking to see what Dell has on sale. See http://www.dmxdimension.com/
I replaced my base unit with a Dell for £229 last month and it wasn't base spec either.
If you only need the base unit spend your money on that.0 -
Your friend is correct in saying it is a big job.
With the old components, it simply isn't worth fixing, even the ram would be difficult to find.
Get a nice shiny one
