I'm interested in both of these cards. I've read they're run by HSBC. What does that mean exactly? Will your account conduct at HSBC be taken into account during the application? Or are they actually completely separate from HSBC?
And, how hard are they to get and what sort of limits and APR do they offer?
Thank you kindly.

It means both credit cards are underwritten by the same lender.I'm interested in both of these cards [John Lewis/M&S]. I've read they're run by HSBC. What does that mean exactly?
If you're talking about a savings a/c, no. This neither helps nor harms your application. Will your account conduct at HSBC be taken into account during the application?
The cc arm is separate from the banking operation, yesAre they actually completely separate from HSBC?
Sorry, only HSBC knows the answer to that one.How hard are they to get and what sort of limits do they offer? What sort of APRs do they offer?
Why not go to HSBC's website and read what it says?;)

No I am asking whether account conduct with HSBC current account and credit products has a bearing. HSBC.co.uk does not have any information on it about the M&S card or the JL card. Obviously the reason for my post was to seek information from somebody who already holds one or both of these cards. I did not need you to provide HSBC's generic website url as I'm sure you realize (not to mention that said website bears no relevant information re my question).
 Thanks again.0

Dear me, reading your reply, I'm sorry I took the trouble to answer your post. I had answered three of your questions (and did so because nobody else had bothered.)
I have HSBC's credit card and also the M&S card, but not John Lewis.I am asking whether account conduct with HSBC current account and credit products has a bearing.
IME over more than a decade, it's your payment history with all your creditors over the last 6 years that counts, with particular emphasis on the most recent 12 months.
As for APRs, these change all the time. Please see the summary boxes on the relevant websites.
Irrespective of what's stated on this forum or anywhere else, it's the credit agreement you sign which counts People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0

HSBC own 100% of M&S Money. As such, I suspect that if one has a 'good relationship' with HSBC generally that would be a positive factor when applying for a M&S card.
No idea how closely their systems are aligned otherwise though.

Well, you would think so, wouldn't you?
Yet, AFAIK, there's no evidence that this happens and none of us- including the credit reference agencies - knows what criteria are used by individual cc companies. Lenders do not disclose this information.
I would think you're better off selecting the credit card deal that appeals to you most.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0

Don't count on that you holding an account with hsbc, count on your credit history. normaly their apr is lower than than most cards.
i would recommend them both. the limits are good they offer if you have a good history it can go up to £15000.
