Freeview MUX 2

For some reason during the last 2 days I cannot receive any channels in the MUX 2 channel list ( ITV1, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, C4, E4 & More4). Usually these are my strongest signal channels.

I receive my channels from Sutton Coldfield transmitter (Approx 8 miles).

Anyone else experiencing this, know of any problems or have any advice.

Thanks.

I don't have any information regarding your problem, but there is a bit of history about the Sutton Coldfield transmitter over at Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sutton_Coldfield_television_transmitter

Sutton Coldfield Mux 2 is working fine as I type.

Usually these are my strongest signal channels.

That could well be your problem. If you have too much signal, it can be as bad as too little. Due to your relative closeness to the transmitter, you may need to fit an in-line attenuator to reduce your signal strength a bit!

I had a inline booster plugged in, just removed it, MUX 2 still no signal. However all the other channels signal has improved. Don't understand.

Looks like i'm going to have to back to analogue to watch ITV1 & C4.
  • Problem solved.

Did a rescan of all channels and MUX 2 channel list working fine.

The problem with boosters is that they amplify the noise as well as the signal which often reduces the overall quality of the signal fed into the tuner.

With analogue, you can see the effect of varying signal strength on your screen but with digital, there is either enough signal to reach the threshold for it to work or sometimes too much signal can overload the receiver.

Boosters/distribution amplifiers are OK when used after the receiver to pipe the signal to other rooms etc. but you need a good noise free signal to start with.

    ;)

Which is why (when needed) they should be as close as practicable to the aerial - not shoved behind the TV set.

...and only used in situations where you have a weak, but otherwise clean signal.
