Hi! I have an 06 VW Polo 1.4D; the warning light came on yesterday to say I need new front brake pads. Until now, I've had it serviced at a main dealer, but I really can't see the point in that for a set of brake pads. What sort of price should I expect for a new set and all the associated work? Thank you!

  • £20 for the pads and 20/30 quid in beer tokens for someone with a bit of knowledge to fit them.
  • Why don't you pick the phone up and ask Kiwk-Fit, or their like ?

There's a local independent garage I used to go to with my old car, it's just that I've not needed new brake pads for this car before and wondered if there was any one who could give me a rough idea of cost on a Sunday afternoon!

    i agree

as long as you have not shafted the discs ( i would assume not) if you budget for £60 and a small garage, you will be pleased if there is any change :)

Yes KwikFit will possibly try to tell you you've a need for new exhast/tyres/tracking/ etc etc, but they DO offer a reasonabley pricedservice for fitting new pads.

Plus they offer 'guaranteed for life' too. Assuming that you wanted to keep the car, for another 20+ thousand miles, depending on how heavy you are oon your braking.http://www.kwik-fit.com/free-brake-check.asp

Also, does your VW dealer have any price match/price beat offers, quite often they are NOT as expensive as you might think!!

Get them to offer a quote!!

I don't think I'm too heavy, it's done nearly 43,000 miles and this will be it's first new set. I'm not planning to change the car, it's not 3 years old yet and although I had to do a fair bit of driving for my old job, with the new one I started in August I use public transport to get to work, so I'm probably only doing 6000 per year.
